What is the Choice Advice Service?

The Choice Advice Service provides parents and carers with impartial advice, support, help and information about secondary schools.

The aim is to work with families to understand their child's educational needs and explain key information in order to help parents make an informed choice.

The Choice Advice Service acts at "arms length" from the Local Authority and any advice given is purely in the best interest of the child.

The Choice Adviser can offer you impartial advice and support based on the available information but CANNOT make the decision for you, or guarantee you a place at your preferred school.

How can the Choice Adviser help?
  • Listen to your questions and concerns
  • Provide you with information about the schools in your area
  • Tell you about admissions policies for different types of schools
  • Arrange visits
  • Help you fill in the necessary forms
  • Explain what will happen when you have made your decision
  • Tell you what you can do if you don’t get the school you want
  • Provide advice and support if you decide to appeal for a school place
Where and when can I meet the Choice Adviser?

You can meet the Choice adviser at:
  • School open days or open evenings
  • Information sessions about children transferring from primary to secondary school
  • Group sessions at locations within the community
