Information for Parents

The Children & Families Information Service (CFIS) provides FREE good quality, impartial information and guidance on childcare, early education and other children's services in Kirklees. The CFIS holds information on registered childcare providers available in Kirklees for example Day Nurseries, Out of School Clubs, Holiday Playschemes, Pre-school Playgroups, Childminders and Creches. We also hold information on other non-registered provision such as Toy Libraries, Parent and Toddler Groups and Play Centres.

If you are the parent or carer of a child with special needs or a disability we can put you in touch with our Childcare Development Co-ordinator who will support and advise parents in finding suitable childcare.

The CFIS can also offer information on the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register - a scheme offered to childcare providers who have not previously been required to register with Ofsted. It will enable parents to know the provider has met basic standards designed to safeguard children.

The CIS can also offer information on the Childcare Approval Scheme which is a voluntary scheme for approved childcare providers who meet the criteria. It will also enable parents and employers to check if a carer is approved.

We also have information on help towards childcare costs, via Working Tax Credit and funding for three and four year olds in nursery/pre school education.

The staff at the Children & Families Information Service have a wealth of knowledge and understanding of a great many child and childcare related issues but if we can not help you we can signpost you to a department that will be able to answer your questions.

Information for Providers

The Children & Families Information Service can help you to fill your vacancies by promoting your childcare service directly to parents requesting information on childcare and early education. We can also advertise your business on the Childcarelink website. This is a completely free service. All we ask is that you keep us informed of your childcare vacancies.

The Children’s Information Service can also advertise your staff vacancies, both locally and nationally, again this is a free service, so give us a call and let us know about them!
