Westborough High School
Gillian Donohoe - April 2009
school.organisation@kirklees.gov.uk
The proposal
Extensive investment and development of Westborough High School as a 1200 place school for 11 to 16 year olds.
This would mean prescribed alterations to:
-
Enlarge the size of the school from 900 to 1200 places from 1st September 2013
-
Increase the annual admission number from 180 to 240 from 1st September 2013
In addition we intend to work closely with the governing body to establish Trust status for the school. This would bring together a range of strong educational partners that have a long term commitment to work with the school to help to raise the attainment and the aspirations of pupils at the school. Further consultation with all interested parties will be carried out as soon as plans are ready.
Who could attend?
Priority would be given to pupils who live in the planned admission areas currently served by the following primary schools:
-
Boothroyd Junior and Infant School
-
Carlton Junior and Infant School
-
Knowles Hill Infant and Nursery School
-
St. Johns CE (VC)
Infant School
-
Westmoor Junior School
Support through changes
We are preparing detailed plans to plot the path for pupils, parents and staff so that we can all effectively cope with any proposed changes. Maintaining stability and creating an improvement in the current standards of our children’s education will remain the backbone of everything we do. The developing strong partnership between between all the high schools in the Dewsbury area would help to support pupils, families and staff during the proposed changes to all of the schools.
Support for staff
Retaining our skilled teaching and support staff to maintain high standards of teaching and learning is fundamental to our plans. We have been working with staff groups and trade unions to develop a HR framework to support staff transitions that will ensure processes are fair and support individuals interns of their career ambitions and personal aspirations.
