Our vision

The Schools for the Future programme will significantly improve standards by raising the attainment, achievement and ambition of all learners in Kirklees.

Our aims

Kirklees Schools for the Future will support the five key outcomes for children as set out in Every Child Matters. We want children and young people to:
  • be healthy
  • stay safe
  • enjoy and achieve
  • make a positive contribution
  • achieve economic wellbeing.
We will raise the attainment, achievement, and ambition of every learner in Kirklees, through major investment in new ways of teaching and learning, better use of ICT and world-class buildings and facilities. Through this we will significantly raise standards for all learners, and create superior facilities for learning, sport and recreation for our communities.

Our challenges

Kirklees has done much to improve the standards of attainment and learning in recent years, with a great deal of success. However, we now face some significant challenges which can only be addressed through major change and reform in the way we teach and learn. These include:
  • Equipping our young people and communities to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing labour and skills market
  • Delivering the entitlement and choice of 14 new diplomas to every 14-19 year old in Kirklees
  • The expectation of significantly extended opportunities for learning, childcare and early years education
  • The changing aspirations and ambitions of our young people.

Our promise

  • We will put the interests of the children and young people across Kirklees first in all of our decision making
  • We will lead and fund this programme in a professional, open and honest way
  • We will not shy away from taking challenging decisions
  • We will listen to the views of everyone who wants to contribute, and make informed decisions based on a balance of views
  • We will constantly seek to improve by listening to and learning from others across the country
  • We will work in partnership with government, partners, schools and communities to achieve the best possible value from this investment to help us secure a bright future for the children, young people and communities of Kirklees.
