Where we are now and the 15 year programme

Where we are now
-
Standards in schools are rising but not fast enough
and we need to do even better. We want all our
schools to meet the government’s skill challenge
of 2020, raising levels of attainment in GCSE,
A-Level, Degree and vocational courses.
-
We have too many 16 to19 year olds not in
education, employment or training. We need to
offer more opportunities for young people to
make positive choices for a their future.
-
We need more school places to support
economic growth and population shifts in
Kirklees.
-
We have too many schools that are not full.
We need to make a better and fairer use of
resources.
-
We need better facilities to help our committed
and passionate teachers and school staff do
their job.
A 15 year programme
‘Building Schools for the Future is a
long term
programme to raise
standards and make
schools into centres
for learning for the
whole community.
This will take time, and our proposals look like this:
-
2009 Activity to reorganise first and middle schools in the
Whitcliffe Mount area
-
2009 Phased consultations on proposals to change primary
schools for the wider Kirklees area
-
2009 Planning and preparation work for secondary school changes in North Kirklees
-
2010 Changes to primary school buildings begin in North Kirklees
-
2011 Changes to secondary school buildings begin in North Kirklees
-
2013 Changes to secondary school arrangements begin in South Kirklees
