* A competition must be held for all new and replacement schools. With the support of Kirklees Council, this would involve inviting proposals from a wide range of individuals, groups, organisations and institutions to set up and run the school.

Batley

1. Open a new co-educational Centre for Learning by competition for 11 to 16 year olds on Batley Business and Enterprise College site for 1650 pupils.

What would this mean?

  • Running a competition to open a new co-educational 11 to 16 Centre for Learning*
  • Closing Batley Girls High School - Visual Arts College
  • Closing Batley Business and Enterprise College Birkenshaw, Birstall & Gomersal

Birkenshaw, Birstall and Gomersal

2. Open a new co-educational Centre for Learning for 11 to 16 years olds on Birkenshaw Middle School site for 1200 pupils.

What would this mean?

Runnning a competition to open a new co-educational 11 to 16 Centre for Learning*

  • Closing Birkenshaw Middle School
  • Closing Gomersal CE (C) Middle School

Develop Birkenshaw CE (C) First and Nursery School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 420, 5 to 11 year olds with nursery provision.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Birkenshaw CE (C) First and Nursery School to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 330 to 420 pupil places
  • Reduce the annual admission number from 66 to 60

Develop East Bierley CE (VC) First School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 210, 5 to 11 year olds.

What would this mean?

Alterations to East Bierley CE (VC) First School to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 145 to 210 pupil places

Develop Gomersal St Mary’s CE (A) First and Nursery School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 210, 5 to 11 year olds with nursery provision.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Gomersal St Mary’s CE (A) First and Nursery School to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 145 to 210 pupil places

Develop Gomersal First School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 420, 5 to 11 year olds.


What would this mean?

Relocating Gomersal First School to the Gomersal Middle School site and alterations to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 275 to 420 pupil places
  • Increase the annual admission number from 55 to 60

Cleckheaton

3. Develop Whitcliffe Mount Specialist Business & Enterprise College (VC) as a co-educational Centre for Learning for 1200, 11 to 16 year olds.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Whitcliffe Mount - Specialist Business & Enterprise College (VC) to:

  • Increase the annual admission number for years 7 and 8 from 22 to 240 (22 places are curently available following the closure of RM Grylls Middle School).
  • Reduce the annual admission number for years 9 -11 from 370 to 240

Working with the governing body to propose a change to the upper age limit from 18 to 16 years and:
Closing West End Middle School and Whitechapel Middle School


Develop Heaton Avenue First and Nursery School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 210, 5 to 11 year olds with nursery provision.

What would this mean?

Relocating Heaton Avenue First and Nursery School to the West End Middle School Site and make alterations to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Reduce the annual admission number from 40 to 30

High Bank First and Nursery School, and Hightown First and Nursery School

A final proposal for provision in this area has yet to be agreed. Further consultation will be taking place in the near future. Alterations to change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years have already taken place as part of the transitional arrangements following the closure of RM Grylls Middle School.


Develop Howard Park First and Nursery School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 210, 5 to 11 year olds with nursery provision.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Howard Park First and Nursery School to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Reduce the annual admission number from 36 to 30

Develop Moorend CE (C) First School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 420, 5 to 11 year olds.

What would this mean?

Relocating Moorend CE (C) First School to the Whitechapel Middle School Site and make alterations to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 150 to 420 pupil places
  • Increase the annual admission number from 30 to 60
    and:
  • Closing St. Luke’s CE(VC) First School

Develop Scholes First and Nursery School as a Primary Centre for Learning for 210, 5 to 11 year olds with nursery provision.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Scholes First and Nursery School to:

  • Change the upper age limit from 9 to 11 years
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 150 to 210 pupil places

Dewsbury

4. Open a new co-educational academy on the Westborough High School site for 1650 11 to 16 year olds

What would this mean?

  • Closing Birkdale High School and Westborough High School to open a new Academy

5. Develop Earlsheaton Technology College as a co-educational Centre for Learning for 1200, 11 to 16 year olds.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Earlsheaton Technology College to:

  • Enlarge the size of the school from 947 to 1200 pupil places
  • Increase the annual admission number from 180 to 240

6. Develop The Community Science College @ Thornhill as a co-educational Centre for Learning for 1200, 11 to 16 year olds.

What would this mean?

Alterations to The Community Science College @ Thornhill to:

  • Enlarge the size of the school from 900 to 1200 pupil places
  • Increase the annual admission number from 180 to 240

Heckmondwike, Liversedge, Mirfield & Ravensthorpe

7. Develop Spen Valley Sports College as a co-educational Centre for Learning for 1200, 11 to 16 year olds.

What would this mean?

Alterations to Spen Valley Sports College to:

  • Enlarge the size of the school from 900 to 1200 pupil places
  • Increase the annual admission number from 180 to 240

8. Develop The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form as a co-educational Centre for Learning for 1500, 11 to 16 year olds and 500, 16 to 19 year olds.

What would this mean?

Alterations to The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth
Form to:

  • Enlarge the size of the school from 1090 to 1500 pupil places for 11 to 16 year olds
  • Enlarge the size of the school from 270 to 500 places for 16 to 19 year olds
  • Increase the annual admission number from 218 to 300
    and:
  • Close Castle Hall School and Specialist Language College

All North Kirklees

9. Retain and develop Heckmondwike Grammar School as a co-educational Centre for Learning for, 770 11 to 16 year olds and, 900 16 to 19 year olds.

What would this mean?

  • Retaining the current 11 to 16 provision for 770 pupils
  • Enlarging the size of the school from 400 to 900 places for 16 to 19 year olds

10. Retain and develop St John Fisher Catholic High School as a co-educational Centre for Learning for 1000, 11 to 16 year olds.

What would this mean?

  • Retaining the current 11 to 16 provision for 1000 pupils
  • Working with the governing body to propose a change to the upper age limit from 18 to 16 years

Strengthen all 16 to 19 education by consolidating the sixth forms at Heckmondwike Grammar and The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form, creating 1400 places open to all students from across North Kirklees.

What would this mean?

  • Closing sixth form provision at Batley Girls High School -Visual Arts College
  • Working with the governing bodies to propose the closure of sixth form provision at Whitcliffe Mount– Specialist Business & Enterprise College (VC) and St John Fisher Catholic High School
  • Consolidating provision at Heckmondwike Grammar School and The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form

Madni Independent Muslim Girls School

Savile Town Muslim Parents Association (STMPA) are working on a proposal for Madni Independent Muslim Girls School to become designated as a Voluntary Aided school for up to 400, 11to 16 year olds. STMPA intend to consult on the details of this proposal in the near future.
