Timetable for transfer to junior or middle school in September 2013
Date What happens
Week beginning 5 November 2012 Kirklees infant and first schools distribute transfer packs or the School Admissions Team posts them directly to parents of children attending other schools on request.

Online admissions are available from this date.
Please note you will need to be using Internet Explorer 7, or later, or an alternative browser for the form to work at this time.
Tuesday 15 January 2013 You will be able to apply online until 11.59pm on this date. We must receive your application by this date. Remember that a late application can severely reduce your chances of obtaining a place at your preferred school.
Tuesday 16 April 2013 We will post your offer letter first class on this date. Please remember this is the date on which your letter will be posted and not the date on which you will receive it. If you have applied online you will receive an email offer on 16 April 2013. Online applicants will also receive an offer letter.
Wednesday 15 May 2013 This is the last day for you to request an appeal form for community and voluntary controlled schools. Voluntary aided, free or trust schools may have different closing dates for appeals. You must contact them directly. Any appeals submitted by this date will be heard by 17 July 2013. Appeals submitted after this date will be heard within 40 school days from the date when the appeal is received by the Local Authority.
June to July 2013 Appeal hearings take place.
Last school day of the 2013/14 school year Waiting lists close.

Timetable for admission to the Reception age group in September 2013
Date What happens
From the age of three onwards Application forms are available at all Kirklees primary schools.
3 September 2012 Online admissions are available from this date.
Please note you will need to be using Internet Explorer 7, or later, or an alternative browser for the form to work at this time.
Tuesday 15 January 2013 You will be able to apply online until 11.59pm on this date. We must receive your application by this date. As this is a Sunday, we will also be accepting paper forms that we receive in the first post on Monday 16 January 2012. Remember that a late application can severely reduce your chances of obtaining a place at your preferred school.
Tuesday 16 April 2013 We will post your offer letter first class on this date. Please remember this is the date on which your letter will be posted and not the date on which you will receive it. If you have applied online you will receive an email offer on 16 April 2013. Online applicants will also receive an offer letter.

About primary and middle schools in Kirklees
There are five types of primary school in Kirklees. Either Kirklees Council, as the local authority, or the school governors/academy trust decide who gets a place. The following list tells you who is responsible for making the decision for the particular type of school.

Applications for all schools must be made online or on the Primary Common Application Form (PCAF)

Community or voluntary controlled schools

These are schools for which Kirklees Council provides the funding and is responsible for deciding who gets a place.

Voluntary aided schools

Kirklees Council provides funding for these schools, but the governors are responsible for deciding who is given a place at the school.

Academies

Academies and free schools are state schools that are independent of the local authority and funded directly by the Department for Education. The academy trust is responsible for deciding who is given a place.

Trust schools

Trust schools are state funded foundation schools supported by a charitable trust and the governors are responsible for deciding who is given a place.
