Help to live independently at home

Home support
  • The Home Support Service helps people to live at home, including those recovering after a stay in hospital and people who need help to avoid going into hospital.
  • Services are provided by home care workers who visit people in their own homes.
  • We also work with other home care agencies to meet people's home care needs.
Home care support providers
  • Find a home care provider in your area.
  • Information to help you make a choice that suits your needs.
Carers
  • Support for people caring for someone over 18 years old.
  • How to get the support and information you are entitled to.
Carephones
  • The Carephone Home Safety Service helps people live at home.
  • It includes an alarm service and sensors that monitor and support daily living, such as fall detectors and movement sensors.
Adaptations to your home
  • Changes to your home which promote your safety and enable you to live there more independently.
Assistive technology
  • Equipment designed to help older people or those with a disability carry out daily activities independently and safely.
  • Some can be provided on free loan, other equipment is available to buy.
Direct payments
  • A cash payment which allows you to buy your own support instead of Kirklees Adult Services providing it for you.
  • You must have had a community care assessment or a carers assessment and agreed a package of social care.
Shared Lives
  • Brings together carers recruited from the community with people who need support.
  • Helps people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health needs or older people to maintain their independence and lead the life they want.
