Information about Kirklees Adult Services

Kirklees Council provides social care and support for people, such as home care, equipment to help people live independently in their own home, residential care for older people and respite care for carers. We also have a legal duty to protect vulnerable adults from harm, neglect or abuse.

People may need social care or support during a crisis, because of their age, long-term ill health or disability or because they are caring for others.

Kirklees Council Adult Services supported over 3,000 people to take part in day opportunities and activities during the year 2008/09.

Over 2,500 carers received a respite or other carers’ specific service during 2008/09.

The service supported 166 people with mental health concerns into employment by the end of March 2009.

In 2008/09 12,000 people were helped to remain independent in their own homes.

The Government’s White Paper, Our Health, Our Care, Our Say sets out seven outcomes for people who use social care and health services:

  • Improved health
  • Improved quality of life
  • Making a positive contribution
  • Increased choice and control
  • Freedom from discrimination or harassment
  • Economic well-being
  • Personal dignity and respect
