About the project

Art
Kirklees Council Adult Services started the Arts Project in 1999. The project is for adults with learning disabilities within Kirklees and is part of day opportunities.

The Arts Project:

  • offers workshops within community bases
  • offers the opportunity to be involved with community arts projects both locally and nationally
  • uses the arts as a tool for social inclusion and equal opportunities within the arts and the community
  • focuses on peoples' interests and strengths and gives them the opportunity to communicate their feelings through their work
  • gives people the opportunity to share their skills with the community and to work alongside professional artists and members of the public on community projects
  • gives people the opportunity to have their work displayed within the community
  • gives individuals a sense of achievement and of being valued as artists and as members of their communities.
