An abuser could be anyone, it can be someone you know or someone you work with.

It could be people who care for the person or even their family or friends. It could be a stranger or a paid carer.

Sometimes abuse takes place when it has not happened on purpose. It could happen because of poor training or because the person does not know how to care for someone.

Abuse is often a crime, for example theft or assault. This could take place in the street, someone's own home, residential or nursing home, a day centre or hospital - it can take place at any time, day or night.
