Kirklees Communities and Leisure Services
- Active for Life (PDF:517kb) Active for Life is specifically intended for individuals experiencing mental
illness. Active for Life aims to support people to develop the knowledge, confidence, skills and
support networks necessary for regular physical activity to become a sustainable part of their
lifestyle.
WomenCentre - Womenspace Mental Health and Well Being Service (PDF:
128kb) Womenspace is an independent service run by women for women which, through
advice, information, advocacy and education, creates opportunities and enables women greater
participation, choice and control. It aims to work with women in particular who have experienced or
are facing socio-economic disadvantage, discrimination, violence and poverty.
HOOT - Out of the Blue(PDF: 602kb) Out of the Blue deliver a range of creative activities for people with mental health needs in workshops (groups) and one-to-one (studios).
These services include open groups in music (acoustic and electronic), dance, visual arts and creative writing, plus one-to-one opportunities in recording/music
production and in visual arts "creative sanctuaries".
Kirklees Citizens Advice - Armed Services Project (PDF:
128kb) Following the success of the pilot project carried out during 2009-10 by South Kirklees CAB; to raise awareness of the advice and support needs of ex-service personnel and their families living in Kirklees, the project was extended until March 2011. The project (now carried out by Kirklees Citizens Advice, following a merger) is part of a much wider initiative to repair the covenant between the armed services and the general public and to link in to the new mental health commissioning strategy for Kirklees.
