Shopmobility helps disabled people to get around the town centre by
providing scooters and manual wheelchairs. The scheme allows
you access to town centre facilities without having to rely upon other
people. You can use Shopmobility scooters and powered wheelchairs
to do your weekly shopping, call at the bank, visit the library, meet
with friends, enjoy a meal or simply to browse around the shops.
We work with Kirklees Highways Service to provide crossing points on town centre streets. Many town centre areas are also pedestrianised for better access to facilities, improved safety and greater comfort.
To use the shopmobility scooters or wheelchairs you will need to register
yourself as a user, complete a registration form and undergo a short
safety assessment. There is no charge for registration or for using
Shopmobility.
You will need to bring some form of identification with you, for instance, a driving licence, a pension book or something else with your name and address on it. Once you have registered you will be sent an identification card which you should bring with you each time you use the service.
To book a scooter or a wheelchair, please telephone Shopmobility
in the town centre you wish to visit. They will tell you if a vehicle
is available.You can find the telephone numbers of local Shopmobility
outlets here. You can get the telephone number for any other shopmobility
outlet by contacting directory enquiries.
To avoid disappointment we strongly advise you to book in advance. There is parking and a drop off point near to each Shopmobility outlet.
To book a wheelchair for shopping, please telephone Shopmobility in
the town centre you wish to visit. If you need a wheelchair for everyday
use, please contact your doctor.
