British Sign Language version of information for Deaf People

A wide range of services for people who are Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing or Deafblind are provided by Services for Deaf People which is part of the Adult Services Department of Kirklees Council.

The service will accept enquiries and formal referrals from people in Kirklees on Deaf issues. When these enquiries cannot be met by Services for Deaf People they will help people obtain the services they require through alternative sources.

Assessments for home equipment to help people live independently at home are also carried out by the Service.

Services for Deaf People offer sign language and communication services. Qualified, skilled staff are available to help both Deaf People and hearing people communicate from British Sign Language into spoken English and from spoken English into British Sign Language. This is particularly useful when visiting: doctors, hospitals, optician or dentists; job centres or job interviews, benefits offices or the DSS solicitors or the police.
