Like Housing Benefit you can also get help with your council tax payments if you are on a low income.
You can claim Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit even if you have up to £16,000 in savings, and many disability benefits are not taken into account.
Disability Living Allowance
Disability Living Allowance is a benefit for severely disabled people. It has both mobility and care omponents.
- For the care component you can claim for a child from 3 months old upto 65 years of age.
- For the mobility component you must be between 3 years and 65 years of age.
You do not need to have paid any National Insurance Contributions to receive DLA.
The amount of Disability Living Allowance you get depends on how much care and supervision you need:
- throughout the day and night,
- how restricted you walking is,
- how much supervision or guidance you need when walking outdoors.

Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people over 65 need help with personal care or need supervision.
Like Disability Living Allowance you do not need to have paid any National Insurance Contributions and it is tax free.
To qualify for Attendance Allowance you must require frequent attention from another person throughout the day or night.
