"The Prometheus Deception" by Robert Ludlum
Nicolas Bryson (Nick) has been lecturing for five years on Near Eastern history, in a small town college. His 'retirement' was due to him having his cover blown in North Africa, and he now has a new identity.
At that time, he had been a top field man, working for “The Directorate”, a top secret US intelligence agency, known to he and his associates as “The Company”. Unfortunately, he finds out after a visit from his friends in the CIA, that the Directorate was not what it seemed.
He had unwittingly been working for the 'other side' for fifteen years; a Soviet spy agency.
Bryson is furious, and feels used. When he gets the chance to go after his one-time, masters, he agrees. He now, is up against a global conspiracy, peopled by terrorists, and criminals.
They are more powerful than any government, well protected and very, very rich. They are people who intend taking control of the world.
The trouble is that there is no one Bryson can trust, and the menace is getting nearer to its target...
