Kirklees Skills
Local partners from the public and private sectors have formed a strategic partnership, the Labour Market and Skills Board, to tackle skills priorities across Kirklees. Following extensive research and consultation the Board has developed a Labour Market and Skills Strategy which anticipates the future direction of the local labour market and looks at the challenges and opportunities for Kirklees.

The full strategy is available on request or you can download a summary below:

The strategy has identified a vision for Kirklees as well offering recommendations to achieve this.

The vision for Kirklees is to:
  • Develop the skills and aspirations of the residents to meet the requirements of a 21st century economy.
  • Provide better opportunities for all to up-skill and to improve productivity.
  • Inspire creativity and innovation by fully exploiting our diversity within a green economy.

We will achieve this vision by working with key education and skills providers to ensure that the training and skills support reflects the needs of employers as well as encouraging local employers to increase their investment in skills.
Government funding is available in Kirklees to support businesses to up-skill their staff and provide training and learning opportunities. This is called the skills offer.
Kirklees Skills
The skills offer is about giving organisations better access to the funding and support, which includes partly and fully funded NVQs and apprenticeships as well as money towards leadership and company specific training.

In Yorkshire there is an enhanced offer of up to £20,000 available from the The Skills Enhancement Fund, for a broad range of training activities. We are exploring how organisations can make a commitment to developing a better qualified workforce. Watch this space for updates.

Kirklees Council is working with the Skills Funding Agency; Local Enterprise Partnership; training providers including the University of Huddersfield; Kirklees College and Leeds City Region Employment and Skills Board to ensure that employers in Kirklees benefit from the skills offer.

We are currently working on how we can simplify the way you are able to access to support and funding available, in the meantime please:
