2009 Core Strategy Options Testing
The Options stage of the LDF Core Strategy was published for public consultation in February 2009. In order to draw together the Draft Proposals (Preferred Option), the 4 options presented were tested against a series of criteria reflecting various regional and local objectives. This document, published in 2010, sets out the methodology of the tests applied, a summary of key findings and an appendix of the full assessment results.

Effective Demand for Housing in Kirklees (Ecorys, 2011)
Effective demand modelling examines the volume of newly forming households that are able to afford a mortgage, taking account of monthly costs and the deposit required, to provide an estimate of the demand for owner occupation.

Green belt areas in Kirklees have been assessed against the purposes of including land in the green belt as set out in national Planning Policy Guidance Note 2: Green Belt. This document presents the assessments against green belt purposes as background information to the LDF. It does not make recommendations about green belt release or identify specific sites for future development.

Gypsy and Travellers Accommodation Assessment
This is an assessment of the need for new accommodation for gypsies, travellers and travelling showpeople. The assessment was undertaken by the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) at Sheffield Hallam University, who were commissioned by The West Yorkshire Housing Partnership to produce an accommodation assessment for the 5 West Yorkshire local authorities.

Landscape Capacity Study for Wind Energy Developments in the South Pennines
The study provides an assessment of the landscape capacity for wind energy developments in the South Pennines area. The purpose and scope of the study is set out in paragraph 1.2 of the report.

Open Space Study
The Open Space Study is the first comprehensive assessment of open space provision in Kirklees which provides an audit based analysis of the quantity, quality, value and accessibility of open spaces.
The study also includes strategy recommendations for the provision and improvement of open space provision.
A separate document looks at existing and potential walking and cycling routes (Priority Links) with the aim of improving connections between open spaces and key destinations.

Planning for Employment Land: Translating Jobs into Land (2010)
This report was commissioned by Yorkshire Forward in 2009 to inform the preparation of guidance to planning authorities on the assessment of future need for employment land.

Playing Pitch Strategy 2006
The Playing Pitch Strategy provides an assessment of playing pitches used for sporting purposes across Kirklees. It includes pitches used for association football, cricket, rugby league, rugby union and hockey. The strategy examines the current level and quality of pitch provision and considers the potential demand for pitches up to 2012. Recommendations are set out for the protection, enhancement and redesignation of pitches as well as the need for new pitch provision.

Regional Spatial Strategy for Yorkshire and the Humber (RSS) 2008
The RSS sets out the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government's policies in relation to the development of land within the region. It aims to guide development over the next 15 to 20 years. In July 2010 the government announced the revocation of regional spatial strategies, with the effect that LDF proposals need no longer conform to the guidance in the relevant RSS, but do now need to address the issues covered in RSS, such as the requirement for new homes. However, RSS's have yet to be revoked; this is expected to come about as a result of the enactment of forthcoming legislation on localism.

Retail Capacity Study
These studies provide a picture of the shopping patterns within Kirklees and use householder surveys along with expenditure and turnover data to assess the district's capacity for accommodating new retail floorspace.

Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA)
The Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA), dated November 2008, identifies and analyses current and future broad scale flooding issues for key locations with Kirklees. It also provides guidance on sequential and exceptions testing.

To Build and Where to Build consultation
This exercise occurred between September 2003 and March 2004. It was the first step leading to the production of a new development plan for Kirklees. These reports assess how successful the consultation exercise was and set out what people said.
