About the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA)

The purpose of the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA), dated November 2008, is to identify and analyse current and future broad scale flooding issues for key locations in Kirklees local authority area, and provide support for further assessment and sequential testing of planning applications and proposed development allocations.

To examine whether a site is within an area of high flood risk (flood zone 2 or 3):

The SFRA is a joint study with Wakefield Council and Calderdale Council. More information and flooding maps relating to Calderdale and Wakefield:

The SFRA should be read in conjunction Planning Policy Statement 25 (PPS25) and the PPS25 Practice Guide which outline government thinking on development and flood risk. The SFRA fulfils the requirements of PPS25.
