Unitary Development Plan

Since the adoption of the Unitary Development Plan on 1st March 1999, there have been additions and changes to conservation areas and areas protected for their wildlife or geological significance. In addition, there have been four small changes to the boundary of the Peak District National Park. An addendum to the UDP is now available and is summarised here.

The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) sets out the council's policies and proposals for the use and development of land and buildings. The plan was adopted on 1 March 1999 and constitutes the statutory development plan for Kirklees, except for that part of the District which is within the Peak District National Park (where the national park plans are in force). All previous development plans for areas within Kirklees, excluding the national park, are superseded.

The Written Statement of the plan is in two parts. Part I sets out strategic policies; Part II provides detailed policies and reasoned justification and is augmented with site specific proposals on an Ordnance Survey based proposals map.

The proposals map

Important

Please refer to the schedule of the proposals map notations which ceased to have effect from 28 September 2007.

The proposals map was originally printed at 1:10000 scale on 15 sheets, with a separate plan for Huddersfield Town Centre at 1:3,100 scale on the reverse of sheet 6. These maps are available in hard copy on request for a fee. Alternatively they can be viewed electronically below. If you are not sure which map you need, you can view an index map here.

The maps are available in two versions.

In version 1 maps the key of each proposals map, which is at the right hand side of the map, is linked to policy text from the Written Statement. To view this text, simply click on the relevant map and follow the instructions as presented within the map. It is not recommended that you view these maps online if you do not have a fast broadband connection.

Version 2 maps are lower quality and do not have the policy text. This gives a much smaller file size and therefore the file will download faster.

To download the files "right click" and "save as" to a convenient place on your PC.
