From 6 April 2008 the Government introduced a mandatory national standard planning application form
(1 App). This replaces all local application forms so that applicants will be completing the same form
wherever they apply for planning permission. The Government have also produced advice and guidance notes
for most application types to assist completion of the forms.
1 App was conceived as an electronic application form that can be completed online, and complements the
Government's Planning Portal initiative which promotes e-Planning generally, and specifically encourages
the use of the internet to submit planning applications. If you complete the 1 App form on the Planning
Portal the information required for the application is assembled automatically, depending on the type of
application being submitted.
The Planning and Building Control Service is able to accept online applications via the Planning Portal and
Submit-a-plan. However, for the foreseeable future paper applications will continue to be received, and
various different 1 App forms are available to applicants, depending on the type of application being
submitted. In accordance with Government guidance, the council has adopted validation checklists to ensure
that all the information required to enable your application to be dealt with promptly is submitted with
your application. The 1 App forms, and the associated validation requirements, advice and guidance
notes are here. The online forms can be saved from the website for future use or completed on screen.
Unless you are submitting an application on line via the Planning Portal they will need to be printed and
sent to us with your plans and fee.
