Information for existing foster carers who wish to transfer to Kirklees.
The council's ambition is to place all Kirklees foster children with Kirklees Council foster carers, by fostering for us you ensure that 100% of the council's financial resources go into supporting Kirklees children.
Our fostering team work to guidelines set out in the Fostering Network's Transfer for Fostering Protocols 2014 for approved foster carers who wish to join Kirklees Council.
You do not need to inform your fostering provider that you have approached us for an initial discussion. There is nothing wrong with gaining as much information as possible before making a firm decision. However, we could not progress an application unless you have formally written to you fostering provider (i.e. a letter of intent).
We wouldn't normally progress an application from foster carers who are currently caring for children and young people who are the legal responsibility of another local authority unless they are moving on (e.g. adoption, long term care or return to birth family).
