Understanding your council tax summons

This is the address of the property that the overdue amount relates to. This may be different to your postal address.

3. Account number
This is your account number. You should quote this number when you contact the council about your account, or when you make a payment.

4. Details of your hearing
This gives you details of the court hearing: date, time and location. Your case will be heard by the Huddersfield Magistrates Court. You should try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the time shown on your summons.

If you cannot attend, or would like to speak to someone about your summons, please contact the revenues and benefits service. Please do not contact the court as they do not have access to detailed information about your account.

5. Date sent
This is the date your summons was produced.

6. Charge
This shows how the overdue amount for your property is calculated. It will include the dates that amount relates to.

7. Costs
This is the amount that is added to your bill for the cost of the court hearing.

8. Total amount due
You must pay this amount immediately to stop your case from going to court. More information about court action, what it means, and what to do next can be found on the back of the summons.
