How to contact us...
What is the purpose of the yellow and white markings on a road?
White lines on the road are provided to help road users by giving different
types of information on lane use and directions. Yellow lines are provided
where there is a need to restrict parking to help alleviate traffic flow
and to prevent obstructions on the highway.
What do I do if some road markings are worn and unclear and need repainting?
All road markings are repainted at regular intervals but some can wear out
quickly and may need attention more often. Please complete the service
request form and send it to us. The work will usually be completed within
4 weeks weather permitting.
Who do I contact if some road markings need altering or adjusting?
Please complete the service
request form and send the details to us. Your request will be investigated
by our Traffic section.
Who do I inform if road markings are being ignored?
Please complete the service
request form and send the details to us. Your request will be referred
to our Traffic Section but only the parking attendants have the authority to enforce
the abuse of yellow lines.
What do I do if some road markings have been covered up after road works?
Road markings sometimes get covered up due to patching or resurfacing works.
Please complete the service
request form and send the details to us. Your request will be dealt
with by our Highway Maintenance section who will organise a contractor to
replace the missing lines.
How do I request yellow lines/waiting restrictions extending?
The introduction of new or the extension of any existing waiting restrictions/parking
restrictions on the road requires the introduction of a Traffic
Regulation Order (TRO) to enable the police to legally enforce them.
If you require further information or would like to make a request please
complete the service
request form and send details to us and this will be investigated by
a Traffic Officer.
Can I have yellow lines/waiting restrictions removed?
To have yellow lines/waiting restrictions removed or altered requires the
introduction of a Traffic
Regulation Order (TRO) If you require further information or would like
to make a request please complete the service
request form and send details to us and this will be investigated by
a Traffic Officer.
How do I report road markings that are confusing, misleading or incorrect?
Although every effort is made to put road markings in as clear as possible
we are governed to a greater degree by legislation as to what can and cannot
be used. Please complete the service
request form and send details to us and an assessment can be carried
out by a Traffic Officer.
What happens when the road markings/restrictions have changed since work was carried out on the street?
It could be that the restrictions have changed and what is now on the street
represents those changes. Alternatively the road markings may have been
put back incorrectly or not at all. If you require further information or
would like to make a request please complete the service
request form and send details to us and this will be investigated by
a Traffic Officer.
