Can surface vegetation
be cut back?
Yes, if it is a public
rights of way and the problem is surface vegetation then it is the responsibility
of Highways and Transportation Service to clear this. On an annual basis
the Public Rights of Way Unit put together a list of the most frequently
used paths that require action. This list is then issued to contractors
who carry out the clearance of each path.
If you wish to report a problem complete the service
request form with the relevant information. On receipt of your request,
an Officer will check whether the public right of way is on the annual list
for strimming. If it is, then the work will be carried out by the contractor.
If the public right of way is not on the annual list for strimming, the
Officer will visit the public right of way to investigate and on confirming
the problem will issue an order to the contractor or in-house team if
the path needs immediate attention.
Can overhanging hedges
from adjacent properties be cut back?
Yes, it is the responsibility of adjacent property owners to maintain hedges
adjacent to the public right of way. An Officer will inform the owners that
their hedge needs cutting back giving them a deadline for carrying out the
work. If you wish to report a problem complete the service
request form.
Who is responsible for
keeping the vegetation cut back?
If it is a public
rights of way then surface vegetation is the responsibility of Highways
and Transportation Service. If hedges are overhanging from adjacent properties
then it is the responsibility of the property owner. If you wish to report
a problem use the service
request form.
When will it be cut back?
Unless the path requires urgent attention, the vegetation is cut back when
the contractor is in your area.
