Can I check if a path is recorded as a public right of way?

If you wish to check whether a path is recorded as a public right of way please complete the service request form. On receipt, an Officer will check on the definitive map and statement. This is the legal record of public rights of way. If the route is not recorded as a public right of way an application form can be sent out on request.

Can I apply for a route to become a public right of way?

Yes. You should complete the service request form with the relevant details.

What is involved in making an application?

A notice has to be served on the landowner and at least 6 evidence statements from users of the route have to be received by the Council. The more evidence gathered the stronger the case to get the route recorded as a public right of way.
