Why do I have to pay for Pest Control Treatments? Are the costs not included in my Council Tax?

There is no statutory obligation for the Local Authority to provide a pest control service. By making a modest charge for pest control the Local Authority is able to offer the residents of Kirklees a good quality, competitively priced service which is often cheaper than the majority of private pest control companies.

Also, under the Prevention of Damaged by Pests Act, all owners of land have a legal duty to keep their land free from rats and mice.

How quickly can you respond to my problem?

We will try to respond to emergencies, such as a live rat in the occupied living area of a building or a wasps nest inside a dwelling, on the same day. We will generally respond to all other complaints within one to three working days, although this can be longer in the summer months. You can enquire about appointments and response times by ringing:

01484 226891 Monday to Thursday 8.45am-5.15 Friday 8.45am-4.45pm or by completing the service request form.

Do you provide an out of hours service as I work full time?

We provide an emergency out of hours service on an evening and at weekends for Local Authority/Council Tenants. Routine pest control complaints received out of hours will generally not be responded to.

If you are a Local Authority tenant and have an emergency pest control problem, for example a live rat trapped in a house, you should contact Housing Emergency Repairs on 01924 324700 and ask for Pest Control.

We do not provide an emergency call out service for private residents although we can schedule appointments for early evenings in some cases. During the summer, staff often work weekends and evenings to cope with work demands, so if you are not available during the day it may be possible that we can arrange a visit that will be more convenient for you. You should discuss this possibility if you ring our direct dial number on 01484 226891 or complete the service request form.

How can I request help and advice from you?

Please fill in the service request form, giving a description of the help and advice you require.
