How to contact us...
What is permit parking?
The Council operates numerous Residents Parking Schemes throughout the District.
These are areas where parking is restricted or reserved for permit holders
only.
How
do we know if we are parking in a permit parking area?
All areas where parking is restricted to permit holders and where a permit must be displayed in the vehicle
will have signs erected on the pavement or at the entrances to roads indicating this.
Can I park in a Permit Parking
area?
In some areas restricted parking is available in permit parking areas. If
this is the case, the roadside signs will inform you of the restriction,
for example «Parking for one hour only - no return within one hour except
Permit Holders.» If the roadside sign shows «Permit Holders Only» then only
the holders of valid and current permits can park in that area.
What is a Residential
Permit Parking Scheme?
This is a scheme brought into force by a legal order that restricts the
use of roadside parking to holders of residential parking permits.
What is a Residential
Parking Permit?
There are two types of residential parking permits:
- Residential Permit - A resident permit
can be issued to anyone who lives in a specified property and owns or
has full use of a car and keeps the car permanently at their home address.
The permit has the registration number of that car on it and cannot
be used for any other car.
- Visitor Permit - A visitor permit
is for the use of anyone who is visiting you at your home and wishes
to park in the permit parking area. It does not have a registration
number on it so that it can be used on any vehicle. It does have your
address so that it can be checked if necessary. The visitor places this
permit in their vehicle when they arrive at your home and returns it
to you when they leave
Who can apply for a residential
parking permit?
Only those people who live in properties that are affected by a residential
permit parking scheme.
When a residential permit parking scheme is brought into force the Council
has to obtain a Traffic
Regulation Order through the courts to authorise the scheme. Within
this order is a list of all the addresses of the properties that will be
affected and only people who reside in these properties will qualify for
the issue of a residential parking permit. If you would like further information
please complete the service
request form and send details to us
How long does a permit
last?
All residential permits last for 12 months. The start date depends on which
scheme area you live in. If you move into a property during that year any
permits issued to you will still have the same start date as the rest of
the permits issued for that scheme. If you would like further information
please complete the service
request form and send details to us.
How do I apply for a
permit?
If you live in a property where a permit parking scheme operates you can
send details to us by completing the permit application. You can obtain
a form by completing the service
request form. Alternatively you can call into the Parking Office on
Albion Street in Huddersfield to collect one. You may be asked to provide
evidence that you live at that address and own the vehicle for which you
want a permit.
How long does it take to
get a permit?
New applications for permits are processed very quickly usually within two
days of receipt provided you have supplied the necessary information. Where
additional information or clarification is required then the issue of your
permit will be delayed until the information is provided. If you would like
to apply for a permit please complete the permit application form and send
details to us. You can obtain an application form by completing the service
request form.
How do I renew an existing
permit?
Every year, approximately one month before your permit expires, you will
receive a reminder notice and a new application form so that you can apply
for the renewal of your permit. In the notice, you will be given a date
by which you should return your application. If you return your application
by this date your new permit will be sent by post to you approximately 5
days before the renewal date of your permit. If you are late submitting
your application then the issue of your permit may be delayed. If you would
like further information please complete the service
request form and send details to us.
What if I change my
vehicle during the year?
You will need to apply for a new resident permit by completing the application
form with the details of your new vehicle. You will need to return your
old permit together with the application for the new permit. You can obtain
an application form by completing the service
request form.
How much do the permits
cost?
The first issue and the renewal of your permit are free. If you lose your
permit and ask for a duplicate permit to be issued there may be a charge
(the current charge is £20.00). You can obtain a duplicate permit application
form by completing the service
request form.
What other types of permit
are available?
If you do not live in a specified property, but own a business or other
property within the area that is covered by a permit parking scheme, you
may qualify for the issue of a business permit or other permit which allows
you to park in the area. However, a charge may be payable for these permits.
Please complete the Business Permit Application Form Special Permit Application Form.
You can obtain an application form or further information by completing
the service request
form.
Can I gain access to a pedestrianised
area with a vehicle?
If you require access to a pedestrianised area with a vehicle you will need
to apply for an Access Permit.
Such permits are issued at the discretion of the Council.
Please complete the pedestrianised area permit application form, which you
can obtain by completing the service
request form.
