What should I do to reduce
the risk of becoming a victim of car crime?
Car crime is very rare. In Kirklees car parks last year there was an estimated
7,000,000 visitors and there were less than 250 car crimes. This equates
to one crime every 28,000 visitors. There are however a number of things
you can do to ensure you don't become the one in 28,000:
- Always secure your car, make sure all doors are locked and all windows
are up
- If you have an alarm or steering wheel lock, make sure they are on
- If you have a removable stereo, take it with you
- Do not leave a mobile phone in the car, even if you are only planning
to be away for a few minutes
- Do not leave any valuables in your car, if you cannot take them with
you, make sure they are locked away and out of sight
- Do not leave anything in view inside your car, even if it is a bag
of rubbish or an old coat, a potential thief may wish to check it out,
and even though a stolen article may be worthless, the damage done to
your car is not!
- Be extra vigilant towards christmas, don't leave presents in your
boot - you never know who is watching.
I have been the victim of
car crime, what should I do?
It is important all car crime, whether warranting an insurance claim or
not, is reported to the Police on 0845 6060606.
This ensures accurate records of all vehicle crimes are kept so resources
can be allocated to areas or initiatives to prevent such instances occurring
again.
If you wish to also give us details of a crime that has occurred in a Kirklees
car park please complete the incident report form. You can obtain an incident
report form by completing the service
request form.
Although we cannot be held responsible we may be able to take local action
to prevent any similar offence from happening again.
How do I comment on a parking
issue?
You can complete the comments card, which you can obtain by completing the
service request form
and send details to us.
For further information in relation to operational, development or policy
issues please complete the service
