You need to complete an application form (RTB1). You can obtain this form
from your local area housing office or you can contact the Right to Buy Section of the Physical Resources & Procurement Service on 01484 223288. They are based
at Kirkgate Buildings, Byram Street, Huddersfield.
I am buying my council house, what do the little "T" marks mean on the plan?
Generally any "T" marks on the plan which is to be used for a
council house sale, indicates the responsibility for maintenance. The Transfer
document, which you will sign when you buy the property, will give a definition
and you should ask your Solicitor what this means to you.
I've heard that the land near my property is Common Land, how do I find out ?
The Elections and Local Land Charges Officer of the council holds the register
of Common Land. For information contact:
PO Box B95

for grazing. There is currently a waiting list for sites. If you wish to
be placed on the waiting list, please contact Mick Kendal on 01484

If there is a piece of council land which you would like to rent for garden
purposes, you should print
out and complete the enquiry form. Return this form to us at the address
stated on the form, together with a sketch plan that clearly identifies
the land and including where possible the approximate measurements.
I pay ground rent to the council and the lease says I have to register any assignment. What do I
do?
You or your Solicitor should, within 12 months of the assignment, send a
copy of the assignment:
Physical Resources & Procurement Service
Kirklees MC
Kirkgate Buildings
Byram Street
Huddersfield HD1 1BY
This will also enable your details to be amended on the council's corporate
property management records to prevent a billing being addressed to an incorrect
address.
A wall or fence is damaged or in a state of disrepair - how do I find out who's wall it is and who is responsible for repairing it?
Generally the walls and fences that surround property and fields are the responsibility of the adjacent landowner. These are erected to provide security, privacy and
to mark boundaries between different landowners. The council's Streetscene Service generally only maintains walls which retain the highway or provide a safety
barrier, for example if there is a steep drop at the back of the pavement.
If you want to report a highway retaining or safety wall or fence which is in a state of disrepair, please complete the ROSS Street Care service request form.
Does the council adopt roads or paths as part of a public highway?
The council does occasionally adopt roads or paths if they meet certain criteria.
Who maintains roads?
The council maintains adopted public highways. All other roads and paths are maintained by their owners.
If you want to know if a road or path is an adopted public highway, please complete the ROSS Street Care service request form.
