How to contact us...
What is domestic violence?
Domestic Violence is physical, emotional, psychological or sexual violence experienced by people in a domestic
relationship.
This can range from slaps, kicks, blows, shaking, rape and wounding to murder. It also includes harassment; for
example, persistent letters or telephone calls, threats of violence and emotional, psychological or mental abuse.
Examples would include intimidating or humiliating behaviour, being kept prisoner in your own home or being cut
off from friends and family.
Almost all domestic violence is directed by men against women, but it can and does occur in lesbian and gay
relationships and by women against men.
What can the council do to help?
Kirklees Council has a corporate policy on domestic violence in which it commits all of its service areas e.g.
Housing, social services etc to assist those experiencing domestic violence. It works alongside other
organisations such as Police, health authority and the Kirklees Domestic Violence Forum to provide temporary or
emergency accommodation, information and support for those experiencing domestic violence.
Who can I report Domestic Violence to?
In an emergency contact the Police on 999.
For general information, use contact details above.
