What do Community Workers do?
The Community Work Team provides intensive community development support to a number of specified communities within Kirklees.
Staff aim to build community strengths and support the development of new and existing groups, organisations and initiatives within these selected areas.
They work to identify and develop the skills and confidence of group members, assist groups to adopt the most appropriate organisational form, direct groups to specialist advice where required and support groups to obtain funding and other resources.
Community Workers also work to maximise community involvement and influence in partnerships, local strategies and interagency initiatives aiming to tackle poverty, inequality and social exclusion within their areas.
Do they work in every area?
No, Unfortunately there are not enough community workers to support every area.
Where do they work?
In particular geographical areas or neighbourhoods. Currently staff are working in the following areas :-
- Fieldhead and Windybank
- Newsome Ward
- Dewsbury West
- Chickenly, Crackenedge and Eastborough
- Batley East
- Batley West
- Dewsbury South
- Greenhead Ward
- Crosland Moor Ward

Will the Community Worker in my area write my group's constitution and funding bid?
No, but they will help your group to do so or put you in touch with someone else who can help if necessary. In the financial year of 2006-07 the community work team helped groups to get over £600,000 from external funding sources by supporting them to organise and write funding bids.
