Current Living in Kirklees (CLiK) 2016 Survey

What we're doing

Collect robust data on the health and wellbeing of the adult population in Kirklees. This information is necessary to ensure that appropriate public health and health and social care services are commissioned and provided and targeted where they are most needed. The results will provide a rich source of intelligence for the Joint Strategic Assessment (JSA) and other key strategic documents.

More information on what we're doing

A random sample of 42,500 households across Kirklees will receive a postal questionnaire. One adult (aged 18+) from each selected household may complete the paper questionnaire. The letter accompanying the questionnaire will contain two links to an on-line version of the survey, so up to two adults from the selected household can complete the survey online. Everyone completing the survey is eligible for entry into a free prize draw.

What happened?

Thank you to everyone who completed the 2016 CLiK survey. In total, we had around 8,500 responses from adults across Kirklees (an overall response rate of 20%).
We held a workshop on 13 January 2017 to share some of our key findings - a copy of the slides can be found in the links to the right. The Executive Summary, Technical Report and top-line results are also available here.

What difference did the work make?

CLiK data has been (and continues to be) used across a wide range of projects and in many different ways, including:
- To inform the specification for the Wellness service (launched 2019), the whole system approach to obesity and the subsequent Healthy Weight Declaration;
* This ensured the Wellness service design matched the needs of the population, and identified a requirement to take action on obesity levels in Kirklees.
- In Health Impact Assessments for major building developments, and to support decision-making around planning applications for hot food takeaways and licensed premises;
* This supports the creation of heathier living environments, and reduces the risk of those areas that already have the worst health outcomes getting worse.
- In Health Needs Assessments, including the Kirklees Mental Health and Wellbeing Needs Assessment and across most sections of the Kirklees Joint Strategic Assessment web site;
* This is used by commissioners to identify areas of need and make informed decisions about existing and planned services.
- To identify mental health risks by demographic group at a local level;
* This intelligence is being used to support Councillors across the 7 Kirklees Places with the implementation of interventions to improve the mental wellbeing of their population.
- To gain local insight around protected characteristic groups;
* This ensures inequalities are being highlighted and can be appropriately addressed.
- To measure performance against a range of indicators in the Kirklees Outcomes Framework;
* This provides the ability to benchmark and monitor progress towards the 7 Kirklees Outcomes, ensuring the Council and partners are contributing to improved outcomes.
